Dr. Elio Challita (BE ‘15)

The LAU Alumni Association is proud to recognize Dr. Elio Challita (BE ‘15) as the recipient of the Alumni Recognition Award 2026 for his pioneering contributions to bioengineering, microrobotics, and environmentally driven scientific innovation.

As the first Lebanese to be selected as a Schmidt Science Fellow and postdoctoral researcher at the Harvard Microrobotics Laboratory, Dr. Challita is advancing cutting-edge research at the intersection of biology, robotics, smart materials, and environmental monitoring. Inspired by the remarkable capabilities of insects, he is developing next-generation microrobots equipped with lab-on-chip sensing technologies designed to detect and analyze water contamination and address timely environmental challenges.

Dr. Challita has earned international recognition for his interdisciplinary research, poised to transform environmental monitoring, infrastructure inspection, agriculture, and healthcare. His work exemplifies how scientific curiosity can have a meaningful societal impact.

Among his many distinctions, Dr. Challita has also been named on the Explorers Club 50, a list celebrating individuals whose work is shaping the future through science, exploration, and innovation.
