In loving Memory of our dear alumna Alice Katherine Fakhry
Alice Katherine Fakhry (née Shiber), born in Jerusalem, passed away peacefully in Virginia on January 2, 2023. She was married for 66 years to her late, loving husband, Dr. Majid F. Fakhry, emeritus professor of Philosophy and former chair of the Dept. of Philosophy at the American University of Beirut (A.U.B.). She is survived by her daughter, Rima, her sons, Dr. Samir and Bassem, and 3 grandchildren. Alice earned her B.A. in History from A.U.B. and pursued Master’s studies in history, and she earned her A.A. degree from the Beirut University College (now Lebanese American University). She worked as a volunteer with the Women’s Auxiliary at the A.U.B. hospital, was president of the Women’s League and the Lioness Club in Lebanon and a long-time member of the ‘Welcome to Washington’ club in Washington, D.C. A professional flower arranger who won several prizes, Alice was a gracious hostess who loved cooking and baking. Alice was a warm, caring person and a loving wife and mother. Rima was by her side during her long period of illness. She will be remembered fondly by her family and her many friends. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held later this year.
